The executive director of Puerto Rico’s Industrial Development Company (PRIDCO), Roberto Lefranc, and the president of the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico, Ernesto Vázquez Martínez, announced the beginning of the Internship Program for Engineering Students. This is part of a recently signed collaboration agreement that aims to provide specialized technical assistance in the areas of engineering, surveying and architecture in PRIDCO's Property Management Office.
"We recognize the value of opening doors to the talent of young people, giving them the opportunity to apply their knowledge in real scenarios that directly contribute to the economic development of Puerto Rico. In line with governor Jenniffer González's vision of betting on our youth, this internship program is an example of how collaboration between the academic and government sectors can generate innovative solutions in key areas such as engineering, surveying and architecture, while fostering the professional growth of our students," said PRIDCO’s executive director.
This internship program will provide the opportunity for specialized employment to students of undergraduate and graduate programs of the Polytechnic University for technical support in the processes of evaluating PRIDCO's properties. As part of this initiative, they will carry out evaluation, inspection and field analysis work, among other responsibilities. They will also be in charge of presenting innovative solutions for the management of industrial properties and thus will contribute to Puerto Rico having a better offer for investment.
"Boarding school programs not only represent a learning opportunity, but a long-term economic development strategy. By integrating our young engineers into impactful projects, such as the optimization of industrial properties, we are strengthening the training of the next generation of technical and professional leaders, while adding immediate value to our production infrastructure. For the Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DEDC), these programs are catalysts to accelerate the gear of academic knowledge with practical experience to increase the caliber of our local talent," said Sebastián Negrón Reichard, DEDC’s secretary.
For his part, the president of the Polytechnic University indicated that "we are extremely proud of this collaboration with PRIDCO, which opens spaces for practical and specialized learning for our students. This experience will allow them to apply their skills in engineering, surveying and architecture in projects of great relevance, while strengthening our commitment to train highly trained professionals ready to contribute to Puerto Rico’s economic development."
This internship program is carried out in compliance with the professional practice requirements required by the Polytechnic University. As part of the objectives, students will have the opportunity to compare theoretical knowledge in the disciplines of computers, engineering, science and other relevant disciplines with practice. This will allow them to apply the fundamental concepts learned and recognize their value in real practice led by professionals with vast experience.
"At PRIDCO, we will work with the firm commitment to attract investment from abroad, support the expansion of local companies, and create new employment opportunities. Our goal is to boost Puerto Rico's competitiveness as a reliable destination to do business, while promoting innovation and the sustainable growth of our economy," Lefranc concluded.
